"Q: We lived in NY and have moved to NC, do we have to redo a our wills...
... is the NY will valid here.
we moved form ny to nc and do not want to redo everything, have one son 24 years old, he lives with us and is autistic. "
A: If your will was properly executed and is considered valid...
....in NY, then it is considered valid anywhere and should be honored by a court in NC. That being said, you should review your will every 3-5 years or whenever a major event has occurred in your life (marriage, divorce, death, birth, etc.). If changes need to be made, and you are still residing in NC at the time, it would be in your best interests to have a new will drawn by an attorney in NC. (as opposed to having a NC codicil prepared to accompany your NY will).
